Youth Football Equipment

Please see information below about optional and required equipment for games and practices. Returning players can typically re-use prior year equipment. Players are responsible for their own equipment.
Optional Equipment
- Protective cup (recommended)
- Gloves (receiver or lineman gloves)
- Back plates
- Rib protector pads
- Arm, elbow sleeves
- Guardian caps (Note these are optional, for practices only, not permitted in games, and not all players will wear them. We will evaluate them for future use based on player and parent feedback).
Guardian caps will be offered for purchase at the online uniform order store.
Football Helmets

Need a Helmet?
If you need a helmet, we urge you to get one as soon as possible. Without a helmet your player cannot practice or play in games. Read below for info on getting a helmet.
Don’t need your existing helmet(s)?
If you don’t need your helmet anymore, please consider donating it to a Rams player who may need it. If you don’t know a family to donate your helmet to, we are happy to accept it as a donation and store it for potential use by Rams players who may need them.
Helmet requirements:
- Helmet color: Royal Blue, White or Black
- Helmet brand: Typical brands purchased by Rams players are Riddell, Schutt, or Xenith
- Helmet size: Please follow the size chart for the respective helmet brand. Here’s a good guide for helmet measurements, linked here.
- Players only need one helmet which will be used for both practices and games.
Helmet Option 1: Buy new
If you need a helmet the first and suggested option is to purchase a new one from a major retailer. Our players wear a variety of helmet brands, we generally recommend Riddell. You are welcome to reach-out to the Riddell rep, Gary, who you can email here: LINK HERE.
Helmet Option 2: Buy Used
If you’re unable to purchase a new helmet there are some used options, listed below:
- Play it Again Sports, link HERE
- Facebook Marketplace (search “football helmets”). Also see the equipment exchange group
- SidelineSwap, link HERE
Check to see if the used helmet has been re-certified by NOCSAE.
Option 3: Use a Donated helmet
Reach-out to former players you may know who may not be playing this season, typically those players who have aged-out of the program.
Shoulder Pads
are among the most imperative defensive equipment. Their job? Take the brunt of direct impacts and disperse them across a wide area. And despite the name, they’ll also help safeguard your sternum and collarbone.1
So, with your safety in mind, let’s huddle up and discuss sizing, how to measure your shoulders, how to pick the right shoulder pads, and why the perfect fit is so important.
